American Mindfulness Commons
Building a Mindfulness Program for the Next Generation
The American Mindfulness Commons is a free educational program of The Sanes Bodhi Trust for Spiritual Education, Inc., created to make authentic Theravāda Buddhist mindfulness teachings accessible, practical, and meaningful for young adults ages 18–35.
Modern life brings real challenges: stress, burnout, anxiety, digital fatigue, isolation, and pressure to constantly perform. The Commons approaches mindfulness not as a trend or quick fix, but as a grounded contemplative practice rooted in Buddhist wisdom, ethical living, compassion, and self-understanding.
Through digital learning modules, guided meditation resources, chanting recordings, peer reflection, and live workshops, the program will offer a clear and supportive pathway for young adults to begin or deepen their mindfulness practice.
What We Are Building
American Mindfulness Commons is being developed as a free educational program that will include:
-
10 digital learning modules
-
Guided audio meditations
-
Morning chanting recordings
-
Practice journal pages and reflection prompts
-
Peer reflection circles
-
Six regional weekend workshops and live webinars
-
Youth-led feedback and curriculum review
-
Spiritual review by qualified Theravāda Buddhist teachers
Each module is designed to be practical, accessible, and spiritually grounded. Topics include mindfulness, ethics, intention, breath and body awareness, insight meditation, loving-kindness, daily-life practice, community, and long-term integration.
Youth Dharma Advisory Circle
The inaugural seven-member Youth Dharma Advisory Circle has been formed. Its members are helping to shape the American Mindfulness Commons through curriculum review, guided meditation feedback, digital learning guidance, community outreach, and workshop planning.
The Council helps ensure that the program speaks clearly and respectfully to young adults while remaining grounded in authentic Theravāda Buddhist teaching.
We are grateful to everyone who expressed interest. Updates about the Council, the program’s development, and future opportunities will be shared here.
A Blessing for the Journey
As the inaugural Youth Dharma Advisory Circle began its work, its members received a special blessing honoring the start of their shared journey. The blessing reflects the values guiding the American Mindfulness Commons: mindfulness, compassion, ethical living, mutual respect, and service to the wider community.
