A LIFE ROOTED IN PRACTICE

Jose Antonio Sanes’s Buddhist path has developed through meditation practice, temple life, retreats, study, monastic experience, and service.

His practice has been closely connected with Wat Nawamintararachutis — NMR Meditation Center in Raynham, Massachusetts, where he has practiced Vipassanā, participated in retreats, and received guidance from monastics and meditation teachers.

His Buddhist journey has also taken him to temples and Buddhist communities across the United States and Asia, deepening his understanding of the Dhamma as a living practice grounded in mindfulness, compassion, ethical conduct, and service.

MONASTIC EXPERIENCE

A period of temporary ordination, discipline, meditation, and temple life.

During a period of temporary ordination at Wat Nawamintararachutis — NMR Meditation Center in Raynham, Massachusetts, Jose entered monastic life as a Buddhist monk. The experience included daily meditation, temple discipline, communal practice, and direct participation in monastic life.

That period of ordination became an important part of his continuing Buddhist education, reinforcing the values of simplicity, mindfulness, ethical conduct, humility, and service.

TEACHERS & SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE

Jose’s Buddhist practice has been shaped by monastics and meditation teachers who have encouraged disciplined practice, ethical conduct, compassion, and continued study of the Dhamma.

Among those who have played an important role in his path is Venerable Mongkol Kuakool, Head Master of Wat Nawamintararachutis — NMR Meditation Center in Raynham, Massachusetts. Through temple life, meditation practice, and continuing spiritual guidance, Jose has deepened his understanding of Buddhism as a lived path rather than simply an intellectual study.

STUDY, RETREATS & CONTINUING EDUCATION

Jose continues to deepen his Buddhist practice through retreats, temple-based study, meditation training, and contemplative education in the United States and Asia.

His experience includes intensive retreat practice in Thailand, ongoing training within Buddhist temple communities, and continuing study connected with Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University and Brown University.

For Jose, study and practice are inseparable. Meditation, ethical conduct, service, and direct experience remain interconnected parts of the path.

SERVICE & COMPASSIONATE ACTION

For Jose, Buddhist practice extends beyond meditation and study into service.

His work has included supporting Buddhist temples, assisting community projects, contributing to compassionate care initiatives, and helping create opportunities for others to practice, learn, and serve.

Through The Sanes Bodhi Trust, this commitment has grown into organized efforts supporting spiritual education, community well-being, Buddhist service, and practical acts of compassion.

For Jose, service is not separate from the Dhamma. It is one of the ways practice becomes visible in everyday life

FROM PRACTICE TO THE SANES BODHI TRUST

The Sanes Bodhi Trust grew from Jose’s personal Buddhist practice and his desire to support spiritual education, meditation, and compassionate service in a more structured way.

What began as individual practice gradually became a broader commitment to helping create opportunities for others to learn, practice, serve, and deepen their understanding of the Dhamma.

The Trust reflects a simple principle: spiritual practice becomes most meaningful when it is shared through education, community, and compassionate action.

For Jose, founding the organization was not a departure from practice. It was another expression of it.

TEACHING, WRITING & CONTEMPLATIVE EDUCATION

Jose’s practice has also led him to create and support educational resources designed to make meditation, mindfulness, and Buddhist teachings more accessible to others.

Through writing, study materials, meditation resources, and community education, he seeks to share what he has learned while remaining a student of the Dhamma.

His work reflects a simple approach: learn carefully, practice sincerely, and share in ways that may support the practice of others.

THE PATH CONTINUES

Jose continues to approach Buddhism first as a student of the Dhamma.

His path remains centered on practice, study, service, meditation, and continued learning from monastics, teachers, and Buddhist communities.

Rather than viewing the path as something completed, he sees it as an ongoing practice — one shaped by humility, mindfulness, compassion, and the willingness to keep learning.
