Each year from May through June, children from local villages in India are invited to participate in a Summer Novice Monk & Spiritual Education Program focused on mindfulness, discipline, compassion, moral education, and traditional Buddhist values.

During this special program, many of the children temporarily ordain or participate in spiritual training under the guidance of monks, nuns, and teachers. The experience gives them an opportunity to step away from daily hardship and enter an environment centered on peace, learning, gratitude, and personal growth.

Throughout the program, the children learn:

• Mindfulness and meditation

• Buddhist chanting and moral teachings

• Respect, discipline, and compassion

• Community living and spiritual responsibility

• The importance of kindness and service to others

The program also provides daily meals, robes, educational support, spiritual guidance, and essential care for all participating children and novice monks.

For many families, this program becomes an important opportunity for their children to receive structure, encouragement, education, and compassionate support within a safe spiritual environment.

The Sanes Bodhi Trust for Spiritual Education is honored to help support this annual initiative and assist the monks, nuns, and volunteers who dedicate their time each year to caring for these children.
